« L’homme est l’animal monstrueux et le suranimal »

La question du dépassement des normes dans la pensée de Nietzsche

  • Céline Denat Université de Reims Champagne-Ardenne

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to show that, in Nietzsche’s view, the notion of norms is to be investigated in the light of the more radical problematic of values. Along these lines, he demonstrates that making the same unvarying norms prevail for all individuals involves a danger. And conversely, that it is the philosopher’s duty to challenge the ruling norms: as a matter of fact, norms, that is values, must constantly be overcome and re-created, so that they no longer are mere conditions of self-preservation, but become conditions of self-overcoming for different types of human life.
