Platero y yo, un livre pour adultes ? Une approche d’un malentendu de réception

Abstract

Since its first publication in 1914, Juan Ramón Jiménez’s internationally acclaimed work, Platero y yo, has been classified as a storybook for children, which raised a lot of critical reviews among some of his contemporary writers. However, Platero y yo is not a children’s book. So, this paper aims to introduce us to Platero and to the poet’s universe, to enlighten us to the reasons for this misunderstanding, focusing on its reception and the public reviews. The journey of Platero, the donkey, enables us to trace a social context, between the renovation of education with the Free Teaching Institution and the vision of the poet’s society.
