L' authenticité comme norme de l’interprétation musicale

  • Louis Allix Université de Reims-Champagne-Ardenne

Abstract

Whereas pictorial or architectural works can be directly perceived, pieces of music must be played in order to be experienced. And to be fully appreciated, it is commonly believed that they must be performed in an authentic way. Yet, the desire to play music authentically meets many obstacles, both technical and aesthetical. Furthermore, there are reasons to believe that the quest for authenticity in musical performance leads to
violations of more fundamental aesthetic and musical norms.
