Abstract

This article aims to offer a general survey of contemporary American fiction at its most experimental. Taking “contemporary” in the sense Agamben gave to the word, it seeks to delineate in the margins and the shadows some of the issues raised by innovative forms of writing that, albeit differently in their thematic or aesthetic concerns, may open up the page to hybrid layouts, often influenced by new media. Interrogating modes of reading and modalities of access to texts, these forms of writing turn the page into a new space whose exploration remains to negotiate.
