Abstract

The Mudejar architecture which, still today, shapes the urban landscape of the city of Granada, developed between the 13th century, when Fernando III conquered Seville and the southern part of Andalusia, and the end of the 16th century, making it the most important Hispano-Muslim art movement on the country. The article offers, through the study of different churches of Mudejar architecture in Granada from the 16th century, an artistic and historical perspective of what Mudejar art could represent, ideologically and culturally, for the elites of the time. The monuments studied bear witness to an architectural fusion of Mudejar art, Romanesque art, Gothic art and Renaissance art: the church of San José (1525), the church of Santa Ana (1537), the church of San Bartolomé (1574) are some examples.
