Estrategias y elecciones en las versiones española, francesa e italiana de Let it go
Abstract
This paper explores the different strategies and choices made when translating songs for the cinema. Whereas songs in live-action films are usually subtitled, the standard audiovisual translation mode used in animated films is dubbing, mainly because young cinemagoers are the main audience of these films and their reading skills are not completely developed. The creation of a « singable » lyric and the respect for dubbing conventions oblige the translator to make choices taking into account the visual, musical and linguistic dimensions of the text. The analyses of the Spanish, French and Italian versions of Let it go, global hit from Disney’s Frozen (2013), reveal some of these approaches and translators’ priorities.
