This issue deals with the question of writing history at the intersection of three disciplines that share the 'terrain' of words and discourse: linguistics, literature and history, with the aim of strengthening interdisciplinary dialogue around the issue of the word as a vector of historiography. While the use of words is historically and socio-politically situated, words also have their own history. Marked by a profound methodological diversity, the issues developed here are rooted in different periods (from the thirteenth to the twenty-first century), geographical areas (Africa, the Americas, Europe) and languages (Arabic, Mayan-Yucatecan, Fungbe, German, Castilian, English and French).
Using different textual supports (novels, dictionaries, historical or scientific documents), the aim is to show how words are in constant dispute between the actors who state their stories, aware that imposing, modifying, decoding or concealing the meaning of words is a crucial issue in the relationship with reality and therefore with History as it is said, lived, written and rewritten all the time.
